I Heart Quirky Cities

Unless they're really annoying, people's quirks usually make them even more lovable. I'm pretty sure cities are the same way. So these are a few of the quirky things I saw in D.C. a few weeks ago...

Yup, that's a llama. (I don't know why llamas are so fascinating. I suspect they got their big break with Emperor's New Groove, ha ha!) Maybe this wouldn't be so quirky if it were displayed at the entrance to the zoo, but this llama definitely lives in the front yard of some non-descript apartment complex. I would live here just so I could say "My building is the one with the llama in front of it."

Or how about this one? Harry Potter, anyone? D.C.'s very own "Platform 9 3/4" (sort of).

Other things we love about cities because we recognize something familiar in them...
Like the Lincoln Logs on display in the Smithsonian museum of American History!!! I was so excited to learn that one of the most nostalgic toys ever created was a tribute to an amazing president. Maybe people already knew that, but I never put two and two together...

And sometimes you love them because they remind you where you've been. This is a very cool tribute to a couple of Colorado's contributions to this country. (Dear to my heart, of course, because we all know CO is amazing!) Every state has two statues dispersed throughout the capitol building. A lot of things are messed up in this country, but at least somewhere deep in our collective conscience we remember the values and achievements that have positively impacted us.

And speaking of Colorado, I'll be there in T minus two days. Yay! :)

P.S. I just think you should know that I love the word "quirky." I think it's my favorite word of the hour. :)
