Palmyra, NY

Oh, hello there. Yup, I am still alive, just not posting so much. It has been busy! The apartment is finally in reasonable shape (though I still feel like a few things are out of place since my roommate moved in only a week ago), and the sun is shining in Providence! Yay. :)

What else have I been doing with myself? Mostly bouncing all over the place. Last week I went to Palmyra, which has a lot of historical church sites and where they do a pageant depicting some scenes from the Book of Mormon (despite protesters-- they even stayed through the torrential downpour that wound up ending the show early...).*

It rained so much! You can see that my shorts are still soaked despite Mark's gigantic umbrella.

It was sort of supposed to be a stake (i.e. all of RI) trip, but that didn't happen so much. I drove up with my friends Mark and Jordan from CT, and we met up with a bunch of other people from Hartford.

We drove down Friday for a big dance, and then Saturday we spent the day visiting places like the farm where Joseph Smith grew up and the print shop where the first Book of Mormon was printed. All the tours were given by missionaries, and it was cool to hear their personal testimonies of how the gospel works in their lives.

One story that really struck me was about Joseph having to move the plates one night because of mob threats. He was inspired to move them to a loft in the room they were in. It really spoke to me because it was such a tiny move (literally five feet from their original hiding place), but because of that small move, the mob didn't find the plates. Life can be like that, can't it? Little course changes now can bring big repercussions (and big blessings!) later.

We also walked through the Sacred Grove and the Hill Cumorah.

It was a good trip.

*If you don't know what I'm talking about and want an explanation, feel free to ask. Lots of details + still very busy! = this is what you get. :)
