Home Sweet Home

Guess what I got?

I'm no Martha Stewart when it comes to decorating. Prior to this apartment, I lived in furnished apartments and counted on my roommates to take care of the details-- and they did a great job, like Maddie framing pics from our Spain/Italy/France trip, like this one.

(Maddie, remember how the kids caught us taking their picture and looked at us funny? Crazy U.S. tourists!)
So I usually didn't worry about it. But this year was different and there was a whole lot of white for awhile. I mean, I bought a bed and a kitchen table, but I was starting from scratch! Anyway, the kitchen and bedroom got taken care of first, but I finally did a little something with the living room. It's about time!

I'm experimenting with the vases... There needs to be a splash of color somewhere! The couch still needs something to contrast the white, so I'll wait for Valentine's day. ;) Thanks, mom!

My favorite part is the amazing painting I found at Bed Bath and Beyond. It's not actually on the wall yet, because I'm trying to convince my landlord to let me pound several nails into the wall-- it's a heavy painting, and I would be very, very sad if it came crashing to the ground.
But there you have it! And if anyone has any decorating tips, I would love to hear them! :)

Rachel, this is so exciting! It looks MUCH nicer than the "blank" livingroom I last saw with not a stick of furniture in sight. It's definitely looking more like a home.

I have a thought about the picture. If the landlord won't let you pound nails in the wall, you might consider getting an artist's easel. That would give you some height without paying for holes in the wall - and it would give you flexibility to move it around whenever you want.

Good luck!

RACHEL!!! I'm so excited for you to get furniture!! that's awesome! and I love the idea of getting an artist's easel, or maybe a cupboard of some sort to set it on top and then you could keep cuddling blankets in the cupboard for convenience. I need to call you sometime. Sorry I'm a bad friend and every time I call it's super fast. I hope you're doing well! loves!
